2024 Trial Academy Registration is Open!

The trial academy is a four-day immersive experience that builds trial skills in a simulated environment. Attendance is limited to 24.

The schedule:

• 9/6/24. Classroom sessions will establish a baseline of how to and what to do during trial, including theme and theory, opening statements and closing arguments, direct and cross examinations, and evidence fundamentals.
• 9/13/24. The second session will include additional classroom sessions and practical application of the concepts learned over the first two days.
• 9/20/24. During the third session, the 24 students will be divided into 6 teams of 4 students. Teams will work closely with instructor coaches and complete a dry run of the mock trial that they will participate in on day four.
• 9/27/24. During the final day of the Trial Academy, students will gather in teams of four at the District Courthouse. The teams will participate in a mock trial at the Eighth Judicial District Courthouse in front of current sitting District Court judges. The judge will be joined by two to three jurors, and all will be scoring the competition. The individual advocate with the highest score will be awarded the Best Advocate of the Academy.

This is a Live Event only. The first three days will take place at the State Bar of Nevada offices at 3100 W. Charleston Blvd., Las Vegas, NV 89102. The final day will take place in the District Courtrooms.

Purpose

To provide opportunities for the assimilation of young lawyers into the profession as well as a training ground for future leaders of our bar. YLS membership is open to all attorneys who have been admitted in Nevada for less than five years, or are 36 years old or younger. From mentor programs, to organizing charity events, to networking, to fighting to improve the image of attorneys in general, YLS has a wide array of activities.
