Board of Bar Examiners
The 14-member Board of Bar Examiners writes and grades the bar examination questions and oversees the administration of the two bar examinations and the Committees related to the bar application and admission process. Eight members are appointed by the Supreme Court and six members are appointed by the Board of Governors. Members have three-year terms which are often extended as there are no term limits. The Supreme Court appoints the Chair and Vice Chair. The Board works closely with the Supreme Court and the Board of Governors in formulating rules and procedures for admission to the State Bar of Nevada.
It can take several years for Board members to learn the process of writing and grading bar exam questions and answers, and Board members often spend upwards of 200 hours per year drafting questions and answers, and grading bar exams. Board members meet twice a year to draft, review and finalize bar exam questions and answers, finalize the grading of bar exams and make recommendations to the Supreme Court on policy matters relating to the bar exam and admissions.
