About the Section
Membership Open to Boyd Law Students
Purpose:
The Entertainment and Sports Law Section of the State Bar of Nevada serves the legal and business development needs of lawyers who are members of the State Bar of Nevada and who practice in the areas of Entertainment and Sports law or otherwise provide services to the Entertainment or Sports industries.
The fields of entertainment and sports often intersect, particularly in the broadcast and distribution thereof, and in myriad issues related to the representation of celebrities. But generally, entertainment law describes the laws, regulations and practices applicable to filmed, recorded, or live entertainment. This includes the pre-production, production, post-production and distribution of all audio-visual works, audio-only works, and visual arts. Works included in these categories include, but are not limited to, theatrical films and shorts, scripted and unscripted television shows and series, movies, new media, broadcast sports, plays, music and musical performances and concerts, recorded and live Internet programs and art shows and displays.
Sports law more specifically also includes laws, regulations and practices applicable to amateur and professional sports competition and business. This includes regulation of amateur and professional sports competitions and participants, distribution and broadcast rights, representation of athletes and entities engaged in the sports industry, rights of publicity, and the commercial exploitation of sports, athletes and the myriad of products, goods and services related to and arising from the sports industry.
