The following information provides assistance to individuals seeking non-standard admission to practice law in Nevada. For all limited admissions requirements, please view the amendment to the Nevada Supreme Court – 2016 Rulebook for Admissions for limited practice certification.
Limited Admissions rules include, but are not limited to:
Limited Practice for In-House Counsel:
Nevada Supreme Court Rule 49.1(1)(h) provides for limited practice of an attorney who is admitted to practice law in another U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia, who is employed exclusively as in-house counsel for a single corporation (including its subsidiaries and affiliates), association, partnership, or other business entity situated in or qualified to do business in Nevada, whose lawful business consists of activities other than the practice of law or the provision of legal services. An attorney may be certified to limited practice in this jurisdiction subject to the conditions of this rule and to such further conditions as the court may hereafter direct.
To request an application for certification under SCR 49.1(1)(h) please complete a request form and return to our office.
An attorney applying for certification under this rule shall file their application with:
State Bar of Nevada Admissions Department 3100 W. Charleston Blvd., Suite 100 Las Vegas, NV 89102
Applications must include payment of a $1,000 filing fee.
The State Bar of Nevada shall investigate each applicant and, if necessary, interview the applicant. An attorney certified under this rule does not qualify for active membership in the State Bar of Nevada.
Following certification under this rule the attorney may not render legal advice and services to the public or to anyone other than the attorney’s employer, other employees, or the employer’s subsidiaries and affiliates, except when providing pro bono services through an EAPB program as defined by Rule 49.2. The certification shall terminate whenever the attorney ceases to be employed by the employer, pursuant to subsection 7 of this rule.

Emeritus Attorney Pro Bono Program – SCR 49.1(1)(b):
Emeritus attorneys assist low-income clients through an approved legal services (EAPB) provider by either providing direct legal representation and advice or by participating in clinics and ask-a-lawyer programs throughout the state. Student Practice Certification – SCR 49.3:
Nevada Supreme Court Rule 49.3 provides a method for law students to practice law in a limited fashion for the purpose of practical training.
There is no fee to submit the application. All forms must be completed and submitted simultaneously. Students enrolled at the William S. Boyd School of Law are directed to begin their application process at the Thomas & Mack Legal Clinic. The clinic is located on the first floor of the law school and will prepare all the forms necessary to submit your application.
Students who are not enrolled at William S. Boyd School of Law may submit their applications directly to the State Bar of Nevada, Admissions Department, 3100 W. Charleston Blvd., Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89102.

Legal Services Certification – SCR 49.1(1)(c):
According to Supreme Court Rule 49.1(1)(c), an attorney who is admitted to practice law in another U.S. state, territory, or the District of Columbia, and who becomes employed by or associated with an organized legal services program approved by the Access to Justice Commission or its designee and funded from state, federal or recognized charitable sources that provide legal assistance to indigents in civil matters, may apply for limited practice certification.
Attorneys applying for admission under this rule must complete the Limited Practice Application Request Form.
Limited Practice for Supervised Legal Practitioners – SCR 49.5:
Nevada Supreme Court Rule 49.5 provides a method for law school graduates to practice law for a limited time, in a limited fashion, under the supervision of organized legal services programs and rural district attorney and public defender offices. There is no fee to submit the application. All forms must be completed and submitted simultaneously directly to the State Bar of Nevada, Admissions Department, 3100 W. Charleston Blvd., Suite 100, Las Vegas, NV 89102.

For All Other Special Admissions
Attorneys applying for all other specialty admissions under this rule must complete the Limited Practice Application Request Form.
