About the Lawyer Referral & Information Service (LRIS):
The State Bar of Nevada offers Lawyer Referral and Information Service (LRIS), a free public service for the community. It’s an outstanding resource when you need an attorney but are not sure who to call. Each year, LRIS refers over 25,000 people to our panel attorneys.
If you need legal help, you’ll be referred to an appropriate Nevada attorney. Over 300 lawyers participate in the LRIS program, offering their services in 22 broad areas of law and 170 subcategories. To participate in LRIS, attorneys must be active members of the State Bar of Nevada, in good standing, and have liability insurance.
LRIS attorneys agree to charge LRIS clients no more than $45 for an initial consultation. If retained, they will negotiate their fees directly with you.
The state bar also offers a series of 13 free brochures, most of which are available in English and Spanish. They are designed to help the public answer the most common legal questions related to subjects like bankruptcy, divorce, DUI, real estate law, consumer law, personal injury, civil rights law and other subjects. The brochures are available at various public service agencies, Nevada courthouses and at the State Bar’s offices in Las Vegas and Reno.
Frequently Asked Questions:

What’s the phone number for LRIS? The phone number is 702-382-0504 or toll free 1-800-789-5747.
How does LRIS operate? When you call the LRIS, an assistant will ask you a series of questions to determine whether you do need legal assistance and if so, what type of attorney you may need. You will be given the name and telephone number of an attorney who accepts cases in the area of law which covers your issue. A confirmation of the referral will be emailed to both you and the attorney. If the attorney is not able to assist you, you may call the LRIS for additional referrals.
What if I can’t afford an attorney? All LRIS attorneys are private attorneys and will arrange their fee with you. If you cannot afford to pay an attorney’s regular fees, LRIS will either attempt to prequalify you for a reduced fee attorney or refer you to another legal services agency. Reduced fee attorneys may charge no more than $25 for the initial consultation, and they agree to charge no more than $75 per hour thereafter.
Are LRIS attorneys qualified? Over 300 lawyers participate in the LRIS program, offering their services in 22 broad areas of law and 170 subcategories. To participate in the LRIS, the attorneys must be active members of the State Bar of Nevada in good standing and have liability insurance. Attorneys choose the practice area panels from which they will accept cases. A referral to an attorney who has indicated his or her willingness to accept cases in a particular area of law, however, does not mean LRIS, the State Bar of Nevada, or any other agency, board or committee has certified said attorney as a specialist or expert in the indicated field of law. Additionally, an LRIS referral does not mean that a certain attorney is any more competent than any other attorney. All callers must make their own independent investigation and evaluation of any lawyer being considered.
