On Tuesday, Jan. 2, 2024, the leadership of the Nevada Supreme Court transitioned, as Justice Elissa F. Cadish officially succeeded Justice Lidia S. Stiglich as Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court.

The chief justice holds a variety of responsibilities including acting as the administrative head of the Nevada Judiciary as well as the official public voice of the Nevada Supreme Court.

“I am proud and humbled to be entrusted with the responsibility of being Chief Justice of the Nevada Supreme Court,” Chief Justice Cadish stated. “Justice Stiglich performed admirably in this important role, and I am grateful to be following in her capable footsteps.”

“We will continue to focus on ensuring access to justice for all Nevadans, including timely, fair, and consistent rulings in all our cases and procedures that make sense for parties and members of the public,” Chief Justice Cadish continued.

Justice Cadish was appointed by former Governor Jim Gibbons in 2007 to fill a District Judge vacancy in the Eighth Judicial District Court for Clark County, Nevada, where she presided over civil and criminal cases.  In 2018, she was elected to the Nevada Supreme Court, and began her term as part of Nevada’s first-ever female majority Nevada Supreme Court on January 7, 2019. She currently serves as the co-chair of the Nevada Supreme Court’s Access to Justice Commission, as well as the Nevada Children’s Commission and the Court Improvement Program Select Committee and sits on the Board of the Nevada Judicial Historical Society.
