On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, the North Las Vegas Township Justice Court issued Administrative Order 2021-02 regarding temporary procedures for handling criminal, civil and traffic cases during the COVID-19 pandemic.
According to the order, the court will resume all criminal out-of-custody hearings in person, effective Monday, March 1, 2021; however, cases may be handled via alternative means, including phone, videoconference or email.
Only attorneys, defendants and witnesses will be allowed to attend in-person proceedings. Family and friends may contact the defendant’s attorney for further information.
The following types of cases will continue to be heard through in-person appearances, although appearance by alternative means is encouraged when possible:
- All criminal in-custody proceedings;
- Bail motion hearings’ motions to quash bench warrants, and motions for own recognizance walk-through on arrest warrants;
- Civil temporary or extended protection orders;
- Unlawful towing cases;
- Objections to Claims of Exemption; and
- Evictions.
The court continues to encourage the use of electronic communications for the resolution of cases whenever possible, including for arraignments, status checks, filing motions and plea agreements. Attorneys and defendants are encouraged to check the court’s website for all pending matters.
The customer service lobby remains closed to the public for all Traffic matters until further notice. Defendants may pay their citation online, or contact a customer service representative via phone at 702-455-7801, Monday through Thursday, from 8 a.m. through 4 p.m, excluding holidays.
