On Friday, Sept. 3, 2021, the Eighth Judicial District Court issued Administrative Order 21-06, modifying the case assignments for the court’s Civil/Criminal Division in order to foster consistency, efficiency, and fairness.
Notable reassignments include:
- Department 1 will now have an all-civil case assignment. Criminal cases currently being heard in Department 1 will be moved to Department 23. Three hundred randomly selected civil cases currently being heard by Department 31 will be assigned to Department 1.
- Department 6 will have an all-criminal case assignment, including homicide. All cases currently being heard in Department 6 will be moved to Department 17. All criminal cases currently being heard in Department 18 will be moved to Department 6.
- All criminal cases in Department 9 will be moved to department 18. All criminal cases being heard in Department 23 will be moved to Department 9.
- Department 11 is no longer a business case department. Business court cases currently assigned to Department 11 will be randomly reassigned equally between Departments 22 and 31. Two hundred and fifty randomly selected cases will be moved from Department 19 to Department 11.
- All lower-court criminal appeals currently being heard by Department 19 will be moved to Department 12.
- All non-homicide criminal cases currently being heard by Department 17 will be moved to Department 19.
