Description

This Continuing Legal Education (CLE) program will provide a comprehensive examination of flat fee billing in legal practice, with a particular focus on recent developments in Nevada. The Nevada Supreme Court’s recent decision in In re: Discipline of Hardeep Sull (2024) addresses the ethical considerations and proper treatment of flat or fixed fees paid in advance. Attendees will gain insights into the Court’s findings and their implications for legal practitioners in Nevada.

In addition the program will explore the increasing adoption of flat fee billing, a trend accelerated by the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) in legal research, writing, and other routine tasks. The discussion will cover the advantages and potential pitfalls of flat fee billing, examine how AI technology is reshaping traditional billing structures, and provide practical guidance on implementing flat fees while maintaining quality and profitability.

FACULTY

Dan Hooge, Chief Bar Counsel for the State Bar of Nevada, oversees investigations and prosecutions of lawyer conduct violations and has previously served as Lincoln County’s District Attorney. He holds a J.D. from Brigham Young University, is a member of the National Organization of Bar Counsel, and is licensed to practice in Nevada and Utah.
