As a part of Celebrate Pro Bono 2023, Nevada lawyers will be offering assistance throughout the state with answers to legal questions during the month of October with even more events loaded into the week of October 22-28. Free seminars, clinics, workshops, and Ask-A-Lawyer sessions – both in-person and virtual – will mostly focus on civil legal needs of Nevadans.
“Thousands of Nevadans try to navigate the court system every year without a lawyer,” said Brad Lewis, Director of the Access to Justice Commission. “During Celebrate Pro Bono Week 2023 we work to help those with limited means get free help from a Nevada lawyer. For some this completely changes the outcome of their issue.”
The Nevada Supreme Court Access to Justice Commission has assembled a list of these sessions and has made the list available at www.nvbar.org/probono. Sessions will be offered by many legal aid providers along with a multitude of pro bono lawyers and supporting partners.
Session sponsors include Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada, Nevada Legal Services, Northern Nevada Legal Aid, Southern Nevada Senior Law Program, and Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans.
Many of the programs offered during Celebrate Pro Bono 2023 are made possible with support from Nevada financial institutions through their participation in the Interest on Lawyer Trust Accounts (IOLTA) program which raises funds to help low-income Nevadans with civil legal needs. Sessions are open to all, and all are invited. Also new in 2023 are legal self-help kiosks in select libraries.
