The State Bar of Nevada is pleased to announce its lineup of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) CLE seminars for 2022.

Diversity is the range of human differences, including but not limited to race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity, sexual orientation, age, social class, physical ability or attributes, religious or ethical values system, national origin, and political beliefs. Research reflects that organizational diversity and inclusion initiatives are associated with employee wellbeing, including, for example, general mental and physical health, perceived stress level, job satisfaction,  organizational commitment, trust, work engagement, perceptions of organizational fairness and intentions to remain on the job.

Upcoming CLEs include the following. Click on the titles for more information, or to register:

Cultivating Leadership for DEI Initiatives

  • Date: January 27
  • Time: 11:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.
  • Location: Webinar
  • CLE: 1 Ethics Credit

Recent McKinsey research demonstrates that employees will leave if they don’t feel a sense of belonging in your organization. Often firms have one or two leaders moving the DEI conversations forward, feeling fatigued and unsuccessful. Join in this conversation to define belonging and explore how you champion it while building a stronger coalition interested in bringing DEI to the forefront of your firm.

Recruiting & Retaining Diverse Candidates to Law Firms

  • Date: March 9
  • Time: Noon – 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Webcast
  • CLE: 1 Ethics credit

Hiring based primarily on grades or law school attended often does not meet the needs of an evolving profession and society. A different hiring process is needed to allow employers to look beyond credentials to competencies and capabilities—like grit, resilience, resourcefulness, maturity, adaptability, and self-awareness—to measure the qualifications of a candidate, a process that favors increased diversity among new hires and better hiring outcomes overall. Speakers: Zachary DeMeola and Logan Cornett, Institute for the Advancement of the American Legal System.

Building DEI Within an Organization

  • Date: March 24
  • Time: Noon – 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Webcast
  • CLE: 1 Ethics Credit

The key to leading diversity and inclusion efforts is positioning DEI as a legitimate business imperative. The real power of workplace diversity and inclusion lies in formally identifying, mining, and structured channeling of diverse, untapped cognitive abilities. It must be explicitly demonstrated, constantly reinforced, and recognized throughout the organization. The formal approach adopted by Caesar Entertainment Corporation, which utilizes Diverse-by-Design teams applied to a variety of specific projects, will be described and discussed.

How to Have Difficult Conversations

  • Date: March 30
  • Time: Noon – 1:00 p.m.
  • Location: Webcast
  • CLE: 1 Ethics Credit

The goal of this session will be to provide tools that will enable greater understanding and meaningful dialogue. A diversity coach will walk attendees through how to create these conversations by setting the stage, creating guidelines, encouraging different viewpoints and questions, listening more than speaking, treating the discussion as a brain-storming session with a common goal, and the like.
