Ukrainian Delegation Visits State Bar of Nevada in Las Vegas
A delegation of Ukrainian judges visited Las Vegas during the second week of September as part of the Open World, Rule of Law program. The group’s visit to the State Bar of Nevada on Tuesday, Sept. 13 was one of many stops they made during their week-long tour.
The program was created in 1999 by Congress to further the understanding between the United States and Russia regarding the U.S. political system, business environment and community life. Emerging Russian leaders are given a first-hand look at the political system.
The delegation visited the Clark County Regional Justice Center and the Family Court as well as the Boyd School of Law where they participated in a videoconference with Judge Jay S. Bybee of the Ninth U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals.
Chief Justice Nancy Saitta and Mayor Carolyn Goodman welcomed the delegation on Monday, September 12 at the Lloyd D. George Federal Courthouse. During the welcoming ceremonies, Justice Saitta gave a speech about the value of an open and accessible court system.
The Ukrainian leaders were being led around Las Vegas by Senior U.S. District Judge Lloyd D. George, in cooperation with the Eighth Judicial District Court, Rotary Clubs of Southern Nevada, the U.S. Marshalls and the State Bar of Nevada.
