Judge Valorie Vega has recently said she will not seek re-election prior to her term expiring in January 2015 and instead will let an open election take place.
Vega has presided over more than 290 trials since being appointed to the bench in March of 1999. Since her appointment by former Governor Kenny Guinn, Vega has been re-elected three times; she also previously served as a Las Vegas Municipal Court judge, a Clark County District Attorney, a law clerk and a supervisor for court interpreters.
“I have thoroughly enjoyed my 25-year tenure as a jurist, a position that allowed me to achieve my goal to serve the public. I am most appreciative of the voters’ support and I wish to thank my colleagues and my staff for their dedication, professionalism and assistance during my career in public service.
