Washoe County District Attorney Richard A. Gammick was selected as this year’s William Raggio Ward recipient. Each year a current of former prosecutor who has made a significant contribution to improving the administration of justice in the state of Nevada is selected by the Nevada Advisory Council for Prosecuting Attorneys (NACPA) as the award recipient. The award is named after Nevada Senator William J. Raggio, a former District Attorney for Washoe County.
Gammick has served in the Washoe County District Attorney’s office for nearly 20 years and will retire when his term expires at the end of 2014. “He has worked tirelessly for most of his adult like to protect the rights, safety and interests of others. I am honored to recognize this lifetime of effort …” Attorney General Catherine Cortez Masto said.
Before he was elected as District Attorney in 1994, Gammick was a Deputy District Attorney and Chief Deputy District Attorney for Washoe County. Gammick was also a Major in the United States Army and a police officer in Reno.
