ISSUE EDITOR’S COLUMN
BY SCOT T WASSERMAN, ESQ.
LEGISLATIVE GEMS IN THE FEBRUARY ISSUE OF NEVADA LAWYER
The February issue of Nevada Lawyer focuses on the 2009 Legislative Session and related topics of interest to Nevada’s legal community. The feature article in this month’s issue is a topical index to the bill draft requests being drafted for consideration by the 2009 Legislature. The 2009 legislative session begins on February 2. While budgetary issues will dominate the news, as you can see from a review of the description of the bill draft requests, there are many other topics of interest to the bar being considered by the Legislature. Also in this issue, Scott McKenna, Senior Principal Deputy Legislative Counsel, provides helpful hints and basic reminders about tools that may be used to assist in determining statutory legislative intent. Continuing the theme in this legislative issue, State Bar of Nevada President Bruce Beesley’s column is devoted to celebrating the birthdate of a former Illinois state legislator, not to mention former great president, Abraham Lincoln. Young Lawyer’s Chair Stephanie Allen’s column contains an excellent profile of Nevada State Senator and Senate Majority Leader, Steven A. Horsford. In addition to the regular features, the February issue also features an interview with Dean John Valery White concerning his first year as Dean of UNLV’s Boyd School of Law. The Dean’s column is devoted to the Boyd School of Law’s launching of the Strasser Mediation Clinic.
SCOTT G. WASSERMAN serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the Board of Regents of the Nevada System of Higher Education. Previously he served as a Deputy Attorney General in the Civil Division of the Office of the Attorney General and served the Nevada State Legislature as Chief Deputy Legislative Counsel.
