WCBA President Mark Bruce presented the award at the Professionalism Summit at the Nevada Supreme Court in Carson City on October . In his remarks, he said: “ John has worked tirelessly to improve the legal system throughout his career. His body of work includes long-term efforts with WCBA, Washoe Legal Services, Washoe County Bar Foundation, Access to Justice, Supreme Court Bench Bar Committee, Board of Bar Examiners and many other Supreme Court Commissions. John does this work with grace and class. His professionalism reaches far beyond his work on law-related boards, commissions and foundations. He is timely and courteous. He is honest and fair.
He attacks projects logically and systematically. His work product is of the highest quality. He is renowned for listening and thinking before speaking. When he speaks, he says volumes without talking much. Because the award is generally announced as a surprise to the recipient at the Professionalism Summit, John had short notice of the award presentation and was unable to cancel or postpone a conflicting federal court commitment in Las Vegas without prejudicing his client — another clear example of his professionalism. His partner and good friend Ann Morgan accepted the award on his behalf.
